- The Rise of the Vienna Secession: Modern Art, Architecture, and Design

In 1897, a small group of artists, architects, and designers in Vienna, Austria, rebelled against the prevailing classical styles and began a movement that celebrated a new, modern approach. Christopher Long, Professor of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin, will discuss the origins and early history of the Vienna Secession and works by some of its key figures, such as Gustav Klimt. Social time at 9:30, lecture at 10:00. Peoria Riverfront Museum, lower-level auditorium. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for students.
